Board of Directors

Block Aero is guided by a board that has spent careers on the operating side of this industry: building airlines' Asia-Pacific businesses, pioneering the engine aftermarket, running aircraft teardowns and compliance, and financing the energy transition. The people setting our direction have lived the problems we are solving.

Arthur Burton "Burt" Pinoli

Director & Secretary

An international aviation executive with over 30 years of leadership across Delta, Northwest, and Transamerica, Burt Pinoli pioneered historic US–China aviation routes and commercial agricultural partnerships.

Burt serves as Director and Secretary on Block Aero's Board. He brings over three decades of corporate development and Asia-Pacific leadership: Director of China and General Manager of Asia for Delta Air Lines, General Manager of China for Northwest Airlines, and Managing Director of Asia for Transamerica Airlines. At Northwest he launched the Beijing–Detroit non-stop in 1996, the first non-stop route operated by a U.S. airline into mainland China; at Delta he ran business units generating over $100 million, launched the Shanghai–Atlanta and Seoul–Atlanta routes, and negotiated code-shares with China Southern and China Airlines.

Earlier, at Transamerica Agricultural Development Corporation in the 1980s, Pinoli negotiated the first Sino-U.S. turnkey dairy joint venture, a $10 million "compensation trade" that air-imported milk cows to build foundation herds for dairy farms in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, and later served as a Director of Kowloon Dairy (GZ) Ltd.

Tom Covella

Board Director

A legendary component aftermarket executive, Tom Covella revolutionized aircraft MRO supply chains by becoming the first in the industry to dismantle a CFM56 engine for parts.

Tom joined Block Aero's Board in March 2025. With more than 30 years across commercial aircraft maintenance, engineering, component distribution, and fleet operations, he is widely credited as the first in the aftermarket to dismantle a CFM56 engine specifically for component supply, a blueprint for modern engine material management that showed how high-demand components could be repurposed to lower maintenance costs and improve fleet availability.

In 2001 he founded his component solutions company, acquired by STS Aviation Group in 2008. He then served over 14 years as Division President of STS Component Solutions, building a global OEM distribution network before moving into a Group Advisory role focused on strategic growth and technology innovation.
